Summary
Suggesting that previous historical narratives of the Texas Rangers have lopsidedly portrayed them in exclusively negative or positive lights, Harris and Sadler (both emeritus history professors at New Mexico State U., Las Cruces) present a history of the rangers during the decade of the Mexican Revolution that looks at their activities from a political perspective, especially as they had bearing on the relations between the United States and Mexico. They conclude that the cross-border politics of the Mexican Revolution saved the Rangers from being an anachronism and political tool of the governor and resurrected them as a force seen as protecting Anglo interests against the menace of the Mexican Revolution, even if it grossly violated the civil right of Hispanics and others in doing so. They append a roster of the Rangers for the years covered to the back of the volume. Annotation ©2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
